Ruban’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Thursday 29th October / presented by Caitlin Nienaber

For an artist, the line between autobiography and fantasy can sometimes be a blur…

In the case of Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson, it has reached the ultimate climax where art-imitates-life-imitates-art.

In May, the band released third album Multi-Love: a psychedelic, R’n’B-flavoured collection of jams recorded in Ruban’s basement.

It turned out that the album is a document: of a polyamorous relationship between Ruban, his wife and another woman which he revealed in an extensive interview with Pitchfork.

Caitlin Nienaber caught up with Ruban on Breakfast and asked him how he’s dealing with the aftermath of being so honest about his private life.

Play Ruban Nielson Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra play Perth on Thursday 3 December at the Astor Theatre, supported by Nicholas Allbrook.
