Volcano Eruption in Bali

Monday 4th December / posted by Chris Wheeldon

Bali’s Mount Agung has been a topic of daily discussion amongst all networks and stations across the nation.

After weeks of speculation the volcano’s erupted – spreading a thick haze of smoke across the island preventing flights from arriving and departing.

Thousands of Australians are reportedly stranded – although HUNDREDS of thousands of Bali’s population has been forced out of their houses – most with nowhere to go.

With tourism being the main source of revenue for the island - the Governor of Bali has urged Australia to drop the travel warning to prevent more Aussies from cancelling the holiday plans.

RTR’s Andrew Clements spoke the Deputy Chair of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency, Dr Erin Smith – to investigate the volcano’s impact on the local economy and residents.
