WAAMH Conference: Recovery Stories

Thursday 10th March / presented by Paul Hunt

The WA Mental Health Conference starts today, focusing on workplace well-being, community activities, mental health training and, the big one this year, recovery.

Recovery is a word we don’t hear much of when it comes to mental health illness. This year the WAAMH conference hopes to highlight the importance of discussing recovery with its series of ‘Recovery Stories’, presented by people who have lived with and beaten mental health illnesses. One of these talkers is Adam, on the phone today with Paul Van Lieshout Hunt, to tell us about the event.

In keeping with the topic of recovery, Paul Van Lieshout Hunt talks to Professor Mike Slade, a leading expert on the topic of mental health illness and recovery, who is in Perth for the WA Mental Health Conference.

Mike Slade says “…amplifying the voice of lived experience is crucial, as you move people from a position of dis-empowerment to empowerment”.
