Willow Trees: Climate Champion or Cheat?

Rising temperatures and drying land regions as a result of climate change are having a drastic impact on our waterways. This poses a threat to all animal species that inhabit these waterways.

A new proposed solution is to utilise the non-native (native to Northern Hemisphere) willow trees which commonly populate river banks and streams in order to protect vulnerable ecosystems. However these introduced species are commonly viewed as pests and pose threats of their own.

Dr. Tanya Doody, principle research scientist from the CSIRO, joined On The Record to discuss this new research further and potential solutions for the future.
