You Me Unity

Friday 21st December / presented by Rewi Lyall

Australia’s Constitution has remained unchanged since Federation in 1901.

As a country matures, so too must its values that define us as a nation.

Has this happened in Australia? No, not particularly well when it comes to inclusion of our first peoples.

The You Me Unity Project aims to update the Constitution by paying recognition to the unique cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The project aims to address issues in the Constitution that are largely unrepresentative of Australia’s indigenous culture and that still allow discrimination based on race.

You Me Unity’s Campaign Director Tim Gartrell joins Morning Magazine presenter Rewi Lyall to talk about how the project started, it’s goals, and it’s hopes for the future.
