The Radar Program

TheRadarWeb

THE RADAR is a new initiative conceived and administrated by community radio station RTRFM 92.1, in partnership with X-Press Magazine.

THE RADAR will give young and/or emerging West Australian musicians and artists the opportunity to promote their upcoming launch or independently funded arts production.

THE RADAR aims to support the development of artists and audiences for grassroots music and arts productions in Perth.

Each month, RTRFM will award two grants to two successful applicants: one in the field of music (musicians/bands) and one in another area of the arts (performing arts, visual arts, film, comedy and more).

Applicants in both categories will need to address the following criteria in their application.

For Musicians & Bands:

  • This must be your first major release (i.e. EP or album)?
  • What is the date, venue and supporting acts for your launch?
  • Are you willing to play an all ages show to coincide with your main launch?
  • Are you an emerging artist/act (i.e. have you been performing or active within the music industry for five years or less)?
  • Do you have a marketing plan in place to assist you in promoting the launch, beyond RTRFM and X-Press Magazine support?
  • You must not have received any other funding for this work via other funding bodies (i.e. the Department of Culture and the Arts, Lotterywest).

For Performing Artists, Visual Artists & Filmmakers:

  • Your exhibition, production, performance or other event must be independently funded?
  • What is the  date and venue booked for your exhibition, production or other event?
  • Are you willing to ensure that your exhibition/production/event is accessible to people of all ages (i.e. under 18s)?
  • You must be an emerging artist/creative (i.e. have you been active within the arts industry for five years or less)?
  • Do you have a marketing plan in place to assist you in promoting the exhibition/production/event, beyond RTRFM and X-Press Magazine support?
  •  You must not have received any other funding for this work via other funding bodies (i.e. the Department of Culture and the Arts, Lotterywest).

What do you get if successful?

  • A tailored promotional package with RTRFM encompassing radio sponsorship and online promotion, valued at $900.
  • One ¼ page advertisement in X-Press Magazine or the X-Press App – TBC.
  • Musicians/Bands: A one-on-one mentoring session with RTRFM’s Music Director.
