The View From Here #26: Skullcave
RTRFM’s long-running video series The View From Here returns in 2018 with a set of WA bands playing their music in unique WA locations.
For the fourth instalment in this series we head a gem of our city, hidden away for years as a Police Station, the Old Perth Girls School has been re-imagined as a Cinema for now and a whole lot more in the coming years from the masters of the Fringe, Artrage.
In the ghostly, timeless corridors and rooms we catch Skullcave and their brooding, dark drone sounds. Sounds that fill the rooms in a manner perhaps not expected nor appreciated by those that used to roam the halls, but why not change up a space if given the chance.
The three-piece with their stacks of amplifiers roll through two epic tunes, spanning 17 minutes in a relentless aural assault. But with this bands comes moments of silence and tenderness that elevate their tunes beyond a wall of noise to a place of pure musicianship.
Thier new record, FEAR set to drop on Art is Catharsis is perfectly captured in their second track here, the latest single taken from it.
