Presenting: Underground Solution
How did you become involved?
Many years ago I was an avid listener of “Strictly Rhythm” – the precursor to our show. (The name got changed after the great NYC house label of the same name became not so great). The presenter, Ben Stinga, used to import records in through Dada’s and it was through hanging around there (a lot!) that I met him and many other people connected with the station. I initially helped out on the monthly PowerJam Excursion into House program all the way back in 95.
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
Is it possible to answer this???
What is the best thing about being involved with the station?
It keeps me constantly searching for new music as well as listening to what others are finding. There’s also a great sense of community in the station.
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you in the RTRFM studio?
I’d like to blame the equipment, but I think all the strange technical difficulties I’ve had have been due to user error…
If you could present a show that is not your own, which show would it be? Why?
It would be fun to do one or two episodes of Ambient Zone to have an excuse to go back through a lot of the experimental electronic music I’ve collected. As we try to cover a lot of styles and keep to new music on Underground Solution there’s a lot tracks it would be nice to have the chance to replay!
What do you do in real life?
I manage a team of software developers.
