About

Get to know J.O.E.

From classic hip-hop to Afrobeat, Zambian grooves, and global fusion, I love digging deep into the rhythm and roots of music. Whether you catch me on All City or Global Rhythm Pot, I’m all about sharing tracks that move minds and bodies. Joining RTRFM has been nothing short of transformative. It’s expanded my musical horizons, connected me with a vibrant community of presenters, and even given me the chance to host DriveTime, RTRFM’s primetime show. Every show is a chance to explore new sounds, dig into musical history, and celebrate the voices that don’t often get mainstream shine.
Outside the studio, I serve as Chair of the Australia Zambia Business Council, where I help build bridges between Australian and Zambian enterprises through cultural diplomacy and economic exchange. I’m also a keen traveller, lifelong Arsenal supporter and enjoy spending time with family and friends over music, food, politics and business.

How did you become involved in the station?

In early 2024, I completed the RTRFM Presenter Course— a natural step for someone who’s always been captivated by music and community storytelling. My first encounter with RTRFM was back in my student days in Mt Lawley, where that bold, unmistakable logo and eclectic programming caught my ear.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

I have attended hundreds of gigs but Perth International Arts festival 2024 was a standout; over three nights, I watched Sampa the Great concert at Supreme Court Gardens, W.I.T.C.H from my home country Zambia at Rechabite and the legendary Angelique Kidjo at the Perth Concert Hall. Legendary Hip-hop, Zamrock and Afrobeat performances in genres that are in my top 5!

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

DriveTime Thursday’s with Lee and Emily Jane and Saturday Morning Jazz.
