Understorey: Climate 2018 ~Cementing the Future

Concrete is an incredibly flexible building material, an essential material in today’s society. But bridges, buildings, wharves and other concrete infrastructure are under threat from damage being caused by rising carbon dioxide and increased temperature levels - while cement-making itself is significantly contributing to the problem.  With this mortar mixing in our mind, Understorey explores the whole question of social license – the idea that companies need community support to continue operating, and take Cockburn Cement as a case in point.  Guest reporter Daniel Glamorgan interviews Greens MLC Robin Chapple about how some companies' state pollution reporting gets to stay out of the public view because of a state reporting loophole, formed out of a federal policy change, way back when.
