Spinifex Skateboards ‘On A Roll’ Across Australia
At the heart of the Central Australian Desert, sits Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa); a desert town situated eighty kilometres South-East of Mparntwe (Alice Springs), that has become home to the first indoor skatepark of its kind to exist in the remote region of the Northern Territory.
Referred to as Spinifex Skateboards, the initiative has been drawing nationwide success since 2015, promoting an all-inclusive platform for the youth to ‘drop-in’ and find solidity while building camaraderie and companionship within the community.
On The Record presenter Jesse Begley is joined in the studio with Nicky Hayes, who is a qualified skateboard instructor, and the Founding Chief Ambassador of the Spinifex Skateboards business.
Together they discuss the origins behind the establishment of the initiative, including the primary focus of the facilitated skate tours, and whether there was any signs of a present skate community in Ltyentye Apurte before Spinifex.
