Perth Observatory Celebrates 125th Anniversary

Today, the 29th of September, is a special day for Perth-based astronomers, as it marks the 125th anniversary of the Perth Observatory based thirty-five kilometres east of Perth in the region of Bickley.

Over it’s long life, the Observatory has contributed to important astronomy research, providing educational events for students and the public, and helped individuals become interested in the stars.

One of the many events the Observatory holds, is CosmosCon, an event that perfectly coincides with their anniversary.

Fiona Bartholomaeus caught up with Matt Woods, who is the Tour Administrator at the Perth Observatory.

Together they discuss how the Perth Observatory came to be, including what the guided tours involve, and the array of astronomy research the Observatory has been involved with.
