“Black Cockatoo Crisis” Documentary Wins Brian Beaton Award

Filmmaker, journalist, and environmental activist Jane Hammond is the winner of the 2021 Brian Beaton Award, which will support her upcoming social impact documentary, “Black Cockatoo Crisis”.

In the film, Hammond follows the plight of Western Australia’s three South-West Black Cockatoo species and explores what can be done to save the birds from extinction.

On The Record presenter Tom Reynolds took the opportunity to catch up and chat with Jane in the studio, where together they discussed her early works before moving into the realm of film producing, including the primary factors that make a “great environmental documentary”, and what environmental factors are pressuring the Black Cockatoo species to dwindle.
