Private Philanthropy For WA Arts Questions “Who Controls Our Cultural Institutions?”

Kleenheat & Fringe World, Woodside & WA Ballet, Chevron & The Perth Festival, Rio Tinto & The WA Museum, Fortiscue Metals Group & Black Swan Theatre Company, Alcoa & Sculptures By The Sea.

All of these companies are sponsors of major arts institutions based across Western Australia, and its only part of a much longer list, which has raised conversations surrounding power and control of our treasured socio-cultural outlets.

On The Record presenter Tom Reynolds took the opportunity to catch up and chat with Aden Date, who is a sessional academic and artistic consultant who works alongside cultural organisations on strategy and social impact.

Together they sit down to discuss who controls our cultural institutes, who shapes our shared imaginations, and who benefits from these relationships.
