Hungerford Award Opens Gateway For Local Writers To Win Big

Hosted once every two years, the City of Fremantle Hungerford Award is given for a full-length manuscript of fiction or narrative non-fiction by a local author previously unpublished in book form.

With Western Australia brewing an abundance of talented writers, the Hungerford Award wields a galvanising effect on local writers, giving them a deadline to strive after and the possibility of realising a lifelong dream by winning a publishing agreement supported by Fremantle Press.

Artbeat Presenter Bec Bowman caught up with Georgia Richter, an Editor from Fremantle Press and Holden Sheppard, a Previous Recipient of the Award.

Together they sit down to discuss the importance of the award, including the judging process across all the submissions, and what it’s like to win first prize.
