Gender and perceptions of intelligence

Depending on who you are, when asked to estimate your own intelligence, most people will say they are above average, even though that’s not statistically possible.

In fact, overestimation is a normal cognitive bias and extends to any socially desirable trait such as honesty or how good your driving is.

But in a recent study, Dr David Reilly and colleagues explored how consistently men and women estimated their own intelligence or IQ and he found some interesting differences.

He joined Sophie Minnisale on The Agenda to discuss IQ and gender.
