RTRFM Feature: Body Type’s debut LP Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising
Enter Body Type: the wonderfully brash post-punk outfit with an all female line up. Formed in Sydney/Eora in 2016, two members of the band were learning their instruments for the first time with Sophie McComish on guitar and Cecil Coleman picking up drums. Jamming together at a studio in Marrickville, the pair were joined soon after by Georgia Wilkinson-Derums and Annabel Blackman after meeting through mutual friends.
Playing shows all across Sydney and bagging slots at SXSW, massive UK festivals and main-staging in New York, London and L.A, the quartet’s quick progression into live gigging is testament to their musical chemistry.
With two highly celebrated EPs and a string of singles under their belt, the band now gift us with their debut LP Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising. Written at a time when the band “were coming out of a period that felt quite suffocating and restrictive” the LP is full of steadfast energy and wit.
RTRFM’s Kailyn Crabbe catches up with Body Talk on Breakfast with Taylah to chat all things the new album, the band’s experiences as women in the music industry and how the record came about from a place of empowerment.
Kailyn starts out by asking why the band delayed the release of the record until 2022 – listen to the full interview below.
