The Life and Work of Electronic Pioneer Cosey Fanni Tutti
British artist and electronic musician Cosey Fanni Tutti has been creating groundbreaking work since the early 70s.
Whether as a core member of one of the most transgressive UK art collectives (COUM transmissions), a founding member of the influential industrial group Throbbing Gristle, working as an artist in the sex industry, making electronic music with long time partner Chris Carter, or causing outrage in the British press and parliament, she has remained steadfast in her own unique vision and natural tendency towards pushing artistic and musical boundaries.
Thankfully for us Cosey shows no signs of slowing down. It’s been a productive few years for the artist, seeing her write and publish her critically acclaimed autobiography Art Sex Music, and now gifting us with an original soundtrack to Caroline Katz’s film on electronic pioneer Delia Derbyshire, ‘The Myths and Legendary Tapes’.
Oh, and a brand new book to boot — ‘Re-Sisters’! A wonderful exploration on the intersecting lives of Tutti, Delia Derbyshire and 15th century mystic and autobiographer Margery Kemp.
RTRFM’s Grace Small catches up with Cosey to chat all things her life and work. We get to hear all about Cosey’s insights into Delia Derbyshire, her approach to writing the soundtrack and her reflections on her early work and feminism.
Grace started out by asking Cosey what her take on COUM Transmissions is – listen to the full interview below.
