Austep container exchange program explained

For nearly 12 months, WA has been phasing out single use plastics to help alleviate and eventually eliminate our contributions to plastic pollution.

For retail and food service venues where these changes have been seen the most, less harmful alternatives have been successfully introduced, yet there is still a concern around the continuation of ‘single use’.

Austep, is a container exchange program hoping to be one such solution to this problem. Using an app, customers are able to use and return reusable food containers between participating dining venues when purchasing takeaway food, avoiding the reliance of single use disposable containers.

On The Record producer Will Yagmich spoke with Tobie Mercer, the founder of Austep to find out more about the program.
