Local Feature: Folk project Heathcote Blue release album While Away
Born in the bedroom of Boorloo-based songwriter Lyndon Blue as an unadorned folk project, Heathcote Blue has unfurled with time, doubling in size with the inclusion of Lyndon’s sister Maddy Blue before more than trebling into a six-person band of bucolic alt-country troubadours.
Their new album, While Away, mirrors the band’s affable and organic expansion, layering rotoscopic folk vignettes of modern West Australian pastoralism under Blue’s unhurried and intimate lyrics.
With rough-hewn tape-hiss textures, crystalline violin streams and delightfully capricious flashes of flute Blue’s astute imagery and narration are elevated, and Heathcote Blue’s palpable synergy breathes extra life into luminous songs that already hum, quiver and sway with breezy zeal.
Lyndon and Maddy Blue joined Pam on Brekky to talk process, inspo, and the sense of place on the album.
While Away released independently on January 28.
