‘Mirage’, art exhibition by Jo Darbyshire
‘Mirage’, is a new series of paintings inspired by the artist, Jo Darbyshire reconnecting with her childhood home – Lake Grace in regional Western Australia.
West Australian born, Jo Darbyshire studied Fine Arts at Curtin University, a Post-Graduate Diploma at Canberra School of Art and a Master of Creative Arts in Cultural Heritage at Curtin University of Technology.
Her work has been awarded and recognised in Art Gallery of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Bank West, Royal Perth Hospital and many more.
Her current works explore the power of painting to create and invite the viewer into liminal, imaginative spaces.
“Driving in salt lake country with the windows down. The flickering illusion of water on the road, a shimmering mirage, elusive and compelling. I want to get to it but know it will disappear before I arrive.
It’s also a trick and a deceit, and I’m reminded of putting one colour alongside its opposite to make their common edge ‘vibrate’.”
‘Mirage’ will be showcasing from March, 9 to April, 13 at Art Collective WA.
Artist, Jo Darbyshire joins Bec Bowman on Artbeat to talk about the exhibition.
