Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company presents ‘Brothers Wreck’
Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company is set to present the Western Australian premiere of ‘Brothers Wreck,’ written by Jada Alberts, at the Subiaco Arts Centre from July,5 to July, 20.
‘Brothers Wreck’ follows the story of Ruben; a young Aboriginal man dealing with the aftermath of his cousins death by suicide, on a hot Darwin morning.
The story explores the resilience of a family navigating grief and tragedy with hope and humour.
Artistic Director of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, Maitland Schnaars has a deeply personal connection to the play’s themes.
In an interview with National Indigenous Times, Maitland Schnaars said, “sometimes death has the most to teach us about life, and this play is about life”.
Maitland Schnaars joins Maxxi May on Artbeat to discuss the play further.
The production will hold AUSLAN, audio described, tactile, previews and Q&A shows. More information can be found through Yira Yarrkin and Subiaco Arts Centre socials.
