Do you have social jetlag?

Swinburne University psychology lecturer Dr Ben Bullock speaks to Jeff Bullen about ‘social jetlag’, the concept that people are being disadvantaged with school and work hours not tuned to their natural sleep patterns.

With most doctors recommending eight to ten hours of sleep a night, but biological changes guiding teenagers to later bedtimes, schools are being encouraged to start later to accommodate these changing sleep schedules. Dr Ben Bullock discusses worldwide school culture’s reaction to social jetlag, and whether Australia’s education system is on a similar path.
