A dark side to the Melbourne Cup

Tomorrow marks the first Tuesday of November, also known as Melbourne Cup day in Australia. However, concerns are being raised over the links between the Melbourne Cup, increased drinking and gambling and the subsequent increased risk of incidents of domestic violence.

Curtin University Professor of Social Work and Social Policy Donna Chung spoke to Jeff Bullen about the emotional highs and lows of the Melbourne Cup and how they can exacerbate volatile home life situations, and the revelation of how much Australians are spending on the event between drinking and gambling.
