Imprisonment of Peter Greste dramatised in The Correspondent

In December of 2013, Australian Journalist Peter Greste was covering the ongoing civil unrest in Cairo for Al Jazeera when the Egyptian Government arrested and imprisoned Greste along with two of his colleagues.

Falsely accused of aiding and abetting terrorism and for spreading misinformation, their politically motivated imprisonment made international headlines. After 400 days Greste was released from prison, but his experience became a symbol of the threat to press freedom.

Greste’s experience has now become a feature film titled The Correspondent, directed by Kriv Stenders and starring Richard Roxburgh as Greste.

RTRFM’s Will Yagmich spoke with Peter Greste about The Correspondent, his experience of imprisonment, and the timely nature of the film.
