Murujuga Rock Art Monitoring Report

We have such important rock carvings and art here in Western Australian and unfortunately a lot of them face the dangers of mining companies.

Over the last year or so the state government compiled a report about the Murujuga Rock Art in the Pilbara, which faces impacts from Woodside’s North West Shelf Extension project, however when the results were finally released last month, it wasn’t what people were expecting.

Several researchers have called out saying it severely downplays the impact of emissions on the rock art and the report wasn’t consistent with what had been detailed in the executive summary.

Professor Benjamin Smith, Archaeology at UWA and Rock Art specialist, chats with Fiona Bartholomaeus.
