RADIOTHON KICKS OFF FRIDAY 14 AUGUST ON RTRFM

An apple a day is great, but have you tried listening to RTRFM?

One of WA’s most beloved cultural institutions, the volunteer-driven radio station RTRFM, is gearing up for its annual subscription drive, Radiothon.

Every year in August, the station calls on the community to chip in to help cover its operating expenses and keep it fiercely independent.

Supporters can do this by visiting RTRFM’s Webby award-winning website rtrfm.com.au or calling 9260 9210 during the Radiothon campaign, which kicks off Friday 14 August and runs until the end of September.

To emphasise just how important and impactful RTRFM is to the wider community, its 2026 Radiothon theme is ‘RTRFM, It’s Good for You’, highlighting how listening in and being involved in the station provides everything a healthy body needs.

The station supplies its listeners and the broader RTRFM community with amazing music, shares all the current and important local stories, and keeps people connected. RTRFM hopes listeners agree that the ongoing survival of the station is good for people’s souls, their community and the world!

“We strongly believe that community radio is just straight up good for you,” says RTRFM General Manager Simon Miraudo. “It’s enriching, it’s interesting, and it exists to keep people actively involved with their local music scenes and one another. In a week where the most played Australian song on commercial radio is a soul-deadening AI cover of Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’, we pray that more people will appreciate the human-driven curation and heart that goes into the broadcasting on RTRFM.”

Now in its 49th year, RTRFM is aiming to raise $350,000 to ensure it can keep on providing all these amazing things for decades to come.

Radiothon is an annual celebration of local arts, music and culture in which presenters and volunteers unite to work together and raise funds that are essential in keeping

RTRFM on-air. During the initial 10-day on-air campaign, Radiothon will feature special guests, huge giveaways and an incredible community spirit. Proceedings will be kicking off at 6am on Friday 14 August from Local and Aesthetic with a live edition of Breakfast with Pam, followed by a massive party at The Rechabite and The Bird for RTRFM’s annual Radiothon Party on Saturday 29 August (tickets available via Moshtix). The campaign continues through to the end of September, giving you six weeks to get RTRFM to its goal!

The funds raised through subscriptions and donations play a vital role in covering essential expenses for RTRFM, such as licensing fees, presenter training fees, equipment and staffing costs that enable the station to continue broadcasting. During Radiothon, the funds raised are especially instrumental in supporting RTRFM’s renowned live music events, including the long-standing In the Pines event held at Somerville Auditorium (33 years and counting) and the Fremantle Winter Music Festival. Gold Subscribers of the station enjoy the benefit of free entry to these events.

Those who subscribe to RTRFM during Radiothon go in the running to win major prizes, this year ranging from holiday getaways, dining vouchers, tickets to events all throughout the year and more. Subscriptions start at $30, and subscribers are eligible for exclusive benefits including free entry to events and discounts from our business supporters. You can also donate to the station, and donations greater than $2 are tax deductible (donations also put donors into the major prize draw twice). All those who contribute during Radiothon are eligible for ‘thank you’ gifts from partners, including The Bird, Bossman Coffee, Chicho Gelato and Luna Palace Cinemas.

During Radiothon, participants have a unique opportunity to show their support for both local businesses and RTRFM in a single act. Community members can visit local bars, such as Froth Brewery and The Buffalo Club and enjoy a beer from one of their ‘karma kegs’, where a portion of each sale goes directly to RTRFM.

Radiothon 2026 kicks off on 14 August! Subscriptions and donations can be made right up until the payment deadline on 4 October.
