Bookclub with Danielle Raffaele: Madonna In A Fur Coat by Sabahattin Ali

Danielle Raffaele and Pam Boland reunite after some time apart and they just had to kick things off by discussing the classic John Steinbeck novel now Netflix series East of Eden.

They cover Anne Carson’s Nobel Prize for Literature win, the pulling of Sally Rooney’s novels from the UK and the scrapping of a children’s book about Palestine over editorial disputes…it’s been a big week!

Then, Danielle reviews the 1943 Turkish classic Madonna In A Fur Coat by poet, writer and persecuted journalist Sabahattin Ali. The novel centres on a young Turkish man called Raif Efendi who moves to Berlin in the 1920s and falls in love with an enigmatic young women known as the Madonna In A Fur Coat.
