Gabrielle Della Franca wins 2026 Emerging Artist Award

The City of South Perth held their Emerging Artist Program earlier this month. With a $15,000+ prize pool, 10 categories and over 300 entrants, as well as a public exhibition of the finalists’ artworks, the program is proving a major springboard for artists at the beginning of their careers.

This year’s $5,000 overall award went to architecture student Gabrielle Della Franca for an oil pastel and paint depicting respected Whadjuk Noongar Elder and educator Uncle Simon Forrest at Goorgygoogup (Miller’s Pool) in South Perth – a place of deep cultural significance to him.

Gabrielle Della Franca went On The Record with Jeff Bullen to discuss her history as an artist, the creative process behind the painting, and its special significance to her mother.
