About

Get to know Ephacy

I’m a Boorloo-based DJ, radio presenter, and curator who loves being involved with my community to share my love and passion for music. I love all genres of music, and being a presenter on RTRFM allows me to traverse all the depths of dance music, whether that be techno, grime, proggy dub, the swampy sounds of the 90s and 2000s, house, or some disco, and showcase what Boorloo and Australian artists have to offer. I love it all, and it’s so special to be able to share that with my community.

Why do you love presenting?
I love presenting because it allows me to play all the realms of dance music without being constricted to a dancefloor or one particular area. It gives me an opportunity to connect with more listeners and people in the community, share my passion for music, and introduce new and exciting sounds to a broader audience. This opportunity has also expanded my DJing in so many ways, and I don’t think I’d be the artist I am without this experience of presenting. It’s also so special to be a part of such a special community like RTRFM—big warm fuzzies all the time, haha.

What do you do outside of the station?
Outside of the station, as well as DJing around Boorloo, I am involved in curating events and parties in the community, always aiming to bring people together through the power of music. You may have heard of the all-femme DJ collective I’m also part of called Sealed Section. We DJ around town and run parties together. Alongside all of this, I have a good old 9-5 in the tech world, love hanging with my pooch, and enjoy being in and around nature as much as possible, especially all things ocean-related!

When did you first hear RTRFM?
I first heard RTRFM when I moved to Boorloo in 2013. Growing up down south, we didn’t have anything like it. The station’s diverse and eclectic programming immediately drew me in, and I knew I wanted to be a part of this vibrant and loving community. Every experience and everyone I’ve met through the station has been a part of my music journey, and I’m so grateful for it!

How did you become involved in the station?

I had come on the station for some guest mixes, and that drew me in to sign up for the presenters’ learning programme, which anyone can do, by the way! RTRFM put on a “Many Styles” fundraiser and asked for myself and Will Slade to play B2B. We had never played together before but did know each other from the dance community.

It all started there—haha—we had so much fun together and gelled so well that it started a full summer of endless B2Bs, which then resulted in Will inviting me to join him in presenting Thursday Full Frequency. It just made sense, and I’m so thankful for the opportunity.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Oh gosh, so many to choose from, haha! One will always remain really special to me. I was invited to do a three-hour warm-up slot before DJ Stingray by Outer Body and Garbage TV (shout out to these promoters and friends for putting on so many amazing parties and showcasing so many international artists). It was my first three-hour set, and just me supporting. It gave me so much room to explore and build the atmosphere. I started around 100 BPM and don’t think I went past 125 by the end.

I think there’s so much importance in a support role, in building the room slowly and gently, and not in a linear way. It’s okay to dip in and out. I felt like everyone on the dance floor was locked in with me; we were all on a journey together. It gave room for DJ Stingray to take over seamlessly, with the dancers full but still thirsty. I learned so much from that set, and it will forever remain an iconic moment in my musical journey.
