About

What to expect

CELEBRATE 40 Years of Jamdown Vershun RTR 92.1fm, November 16 at The Railway Hotel and Port Beach Garden Bar.

Imagine Perth 40 years ago… now imagine Saturday afternoons with the sounds of reggae blasting through a radio at a time when classical music and radio play’s reigned supreme. That sound was Vershun Galore; the pre-cursor name of the show we now know as Jamdown Vershun.

Founded for a trial run in July 1979, by Tim Walker, General Justice, Dave Cooper, William Jamison, Graham Hilton and John Briggs the program on RTFM, known then as 6UVS was something completely different and brought contemporary Jamaican and African music to the airwaves that had never heard such sounds before. The show was kept on and Jamdown was born.

In 1988, all but General Justice dropped out of the show to concentrate on other aspects of life and radio, but the General stayed true. Now, 40 years later, Perth has changed but Jamdown Vershun continues and General Justice is still bringing you the best in Jamaican and African music every Saturday afternoon, air horns and all.

Bringing you the best in reggae, dancehall, ridims, afro beat, ska, two tone and all the music that lies between every Saturday afternoon on your radio.

We invite you to celebrate with us Saturday November 16th at The Railway Hotel and Port Beach Garden Bar in Fremantle as we say thank you and celebrate with the Jamdown crew.

From 5pm catch the live sounds of the show as they broadcast live on the massive Voyager Sound System. Then from 7pm catch the DJ styles of Razor Jack, Bun Dem DJs, Benn Madz and Kreem, DJ Alpha T and the Jamdown Crew – General Justice, Mumma Trees, Simba and Upfront as they break the sound barrier with classic reggae and pulsating dancehall.

Inside catch the sounds of best live reggae in town with Jahfyre, The Weapon Is Sound, Little Pedro, THE U-NITES and the legendary Sunshine Brothers.

They’ll be food from Caribbean Corner and rum specials all night.

Celebrate with us as we salute one of the longest running radio programs on the Planet and the best dam reggae program in Australia.
