What to expect
We are delighted to invite you all to the exhibition launch of RTRFM’s Creative Spaces Project at the The Bird.
In 2016, RTRFM was awarded a Catalyst Community Arts Fund grant from Community Arts Network to produce a unique, intriguing project that seeks to understand the creative process and the spaces that inspire it. RTRFM’s Creative Spaces Project involved 11 young people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, aged between 12 and 20, with limited photography experience.
Each participant underwent an interviews training course, facilitated by RTRFM’s Head of Training, Sarah Tout. They were then mentored in the basic principles of photography by local photographer, Daniel Craig aka Matsu Photography
From there, each participant was paired with a local artist, to visit their creative space and interview them on their creative process and the space that facilitates and inspires their creativity. Under the guidance of Matsu, each participant photographed the artists while they worked, capturing the creative process in action.
An incredibly talented, diverse group of award winning artists was selected:
Abdul-rahman Abdullah – sculptor and visual artist
Joan London – author
Fleur Schell– ceramic artist
Andy Quilty
Benjamin Witt – musician
Lachlan Skipworth– classical composer
Hayley Walsh Artist– street artist
Andy Christie aka A Good Looking Manhil – maker
Bruno Booth – spray artist
Phil Walleystack – musician
Phoebe Phillips – weaver
The photography works show a glimpse into these artist’s creative worlds. Please come and join us for the launch on Monday 7th August from 5.30 – 7.30pm at The Bird
