HERSTORY on RTRFM: Libby Stone

At the age of 22 and already mother to one child, a random act of luck led Libby Stone to nailing her audition for the local Merredin radio station, which would be the start of a glittering career in nearly every pocket of the arts, notably acting and radio.

That would lead her on to then work as the only woman at radio station 6PR (until she was fired for being so), and her acting pursuits over east saw her in notable shows such as Blue Heelers and Neighbours.

On returning from over east, Libby went back to study at age 60 to secure a postgraduate in psychology and now practises in the field.

Libby Stone was inducted in the Western Australia Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011.

In this episode of HERSTORY on RTRFM, Libby Stone speaks to Taylah Strano about women in the workforce during the 1970s, the demands of the arts industry and breaking into radio studios with 3 minutes of a song left and nothing but a brick.

HERSTORY is an RTRFM podcast series about some of the remarkable women in the Western Australian Hall of Fame.

Join us as we shine a light on the lives and careers of women who have demolished barriers, lived incredible lives, and built a legacy of possibility for the girls and young women who follow in their footsteps.
