A young Tamil man, self-immolated and took his life, due to the frustration and hardship he’d experienced in trying to gain a permanent visa. Friends and Family said the man had been stuck on a bridging visa for more than a decade. Unfortunately multiple members of the community have taken their own life or self-harmed.
Prashant, organiser of the Melbourne Refugee Camp, joins the show.
The 2024 Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition in Melbourne is taking place from the 11TH-13TH of September and is a convention where weapons manufacturers and suppliers meet to organise contracts with the Australian Government and The Australian Army. Commonly seen as a conference of war and death, the conference is seen as a way for harms dealers and officials to come together to complete deals that end in genocide.
Natalie, one of the organisers of Disrupt Land Forces, joins Ray and Alex to discuss the demonstration and more.
The legislation passed by the Federal Anthony Albanese Labour Government, against CFMEU, is a grave assault on democracy within trade unions and potentially, any membership based organisation. Set a precedent, that the Government can attack any democratic organisation that it likes, starting with the CFMEU. Trade union officials were sacked and delegates were removed.
Alex attended the rally and spoke with protesters who were at the scene.
