Understorey: Climate 2018 ~Wetlands Heartache & Hope

Since Europeans arrived, Perth's remarkable wetlands have been under pressure: from vegetation clearing, changing flow regimes, suburban estates, pollution, and now the transformative impacts of climate change. World Wetlands Day 2018 again saw a convergence of 180 passionate wetlanders, eager and insightful, at the Cockburn Wetlands Centre. Researchers, policy makers and community volunteers discussed our connection with nature and cultural heritage, water quality improvement, habitat for plants and animals, and the heartache and hope of strengthening resilience in our unique wetlands, while the climate changes, all around us.
