Understorey: Climate Emergency 2019~Plastic Free July
Plastic Free July began in 2011 with Rebecca Prince-Ruiz and a small team in local government in Western Australia. Understorey covered the campaign back in 2013, and our month of interviews are still streamable from the RTRFM website. Now in 2019 millions of people across the globe take part, with many committing to play an individual role in reducing plastic pollution far beyond the month of July. State Minister for the Environment Stephen Dawson launched Plastic Free July in Kings Park, announcing that a climate change consultation is commencing this month and finishes in December! Piers Verstegen, Director of the Conservation Council, hopes that the state will take up active responsibilities given the federal government is likely to meet Paris Agreement standards.
