Understorey: Horizons~Arid Lands Abundance

Understorey: Horizons is our autumn season of curated programs from the Understorey sound-rich back catalogue. The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden brings together plants growing in less than 250mm a year rainfall, creating a stunningly diverse collection in Port Augusta's austere setting. In 2016 Understorey met author and guide Chris Nayda at the community-supported, sustainability-driven centre worth a long visit next time you're 'crossing the paddock' . One of the youngest botanic gardens in the country, and so well created, you can see the roots digging in comfortably for the long dry ahead. With CSIRO projections predicting rising temperatures and broadening aridity, the Arid Lands Botanic Garden is a living laboratory for our future. First broadcast 24 August, 2016.
