Get to know Alf

As a teenager, I really got into the blues, classical and then my passion – jazz. Since then I’ve tried to listen to as much as I can. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have befriended a couple of important people to me who became my jazz mentors and beyond. Having a brother who’s also a jazz fanatic isn’t bad either! Seeing and meeting some of my jazz heroes has also been an incredible experience.

How did you become involved in the station?

A friend of mine, who presents at RTRFM made me aware of an expression of interest that had been circulated to present Saturday Jazz. I contacted Chris Wheeldon and Warren Kimble straightaway. I did the presenter training course, which was a lot of fun and here I am!

I’ve listened to RTRFM since the 6UVS days and have followed Saturday Jazz and Giant Steps for years. Having the opportunity to present Saturday Jazz is quite a privilege.
