Get to know Ali

I first heard RTRFM randomly late on a Sunday night and was intrigued by the noise coming from my radio. After confirming there was nothing wrong with my speakers, I found out later during the show that the track played was by Merzbow and I was tuned into Difficult Listening. Since joining RTRFM, I have on occasion guest presented on Difficult Listening so things have come full circle!

I love presenting, especially filling in on different shows because of the variety of different shows on offer, and getting to interact with listeners is always a bonus. My taste in music has diversified so much since starting and I’m often chasing down recommendations from other presenters and listeners.

How did you become involved in the station?

I was going through a quarter-life crisis and decided to go travelling for several months. A French Manic Pixie Dream Boy told me to follow my dreams after explaining my life story to him. I always wanted to be on the radio as a kid. Feeling inspired after returning home, I signed up for the RTRFM radio training course and never looked back.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

It’s a draw between Difficult Listening and Burn the Airwaves.
