About

Get to know Anita Baroni (Neets)

I have a huge passion for all thing’s music. Some may call it a music addiction! This “passion” includes seeing live bands (I’ve lost count!), learning piano/guitar and spending time digging through record store crates for that something special! My taste is pretty broad, but I’m a sucker for a well-crafted song. It can be any genre – just something that grabs you and sparks an emotion to listen to it over and over again.

My music passion goes beyond the music itself. If I hear a good song or discover a band, I’ll go and research it – Who is the artist? Where are they from? What inspired them? What instruments are they playing? Where have I heard that riff before? What makes them unique? And I’m a sucker for a bit of rock n roll history. Everyone loves a good rock n roll story, right?!

I am part of the Snooze Button collective. This means getting up early and having a shot of strong black coffee to kick start the day. I love presenting and hope that I can share my passion for music with you all. On my shows, expect everything. I’m huge supporter and fan of Australian music. I aim for every second show that I present to be all Australian content. And for the shows that are not exclusively Australian, you can expect quite a journey across the rock n roll landscape.

How did you become involved in the station?

I completed the RTR FM’s radio presenter’s course. Radio presenting was something that I always wanted to do, but I lacked confidence and time. My “day job” involves public speaking, leading interviews and writing, so I thought I may as well give radio presenting a shot! It’s loads fun and I get to play really cool music. I hope that you enjoy it too!

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Sooo many! It is too hard choose one! Locally we have The Rinehearts and POND, who always put on great live performances.

I am a massive Beatles fan, so seeing Paul Mc Cartney’s “Get Back” tour in Melbourne last year was a massive highlight. Macca is 80 years old and played a three-hour set – straight. Not many people can do that! What was particularly inspirational, was a young girl who was standing behind me. She would’ve been no older than 12 years of age and she knew the words to every Beatles, Wings and Paul Mc Cartney song!

A couple of years ago, I saw those New Yorker’s, Daddy Long Legs, not once, but twice! They exude rock n roll prowess. Those gritty harmonica sounds, a bit of grinding organ and loadsa loud, rockin’ guitar – what’s not to love. If you had the blues, they “blues-ed” them away! And seeing them in intimate venues like The Duke of George in Freo and The Curtin in Carlton, was an absolute treat. The audience was boogieing and the band, gave it their all.

I have seen loads of Australian bands. There are so many good live bands and artists – I really can’t choose. Just get out and see live music – there is so much good talent.
