Say hello to

Bobby Fletcher

I’ve been working in radio for over 40 years as an audio producer, in order to earn enough money to feed my cats.

About

Get to know Bobby

I’ve always loved radio ever since I first listened to commercial AM stations back in the 70’s (before community radio was even born!) and knew I wanted a career in broadcasting. RTR (when it was 6UVS) was invaluable in getting started on the path, and I learned about the “theatre” of radio – how you can use sound to take the listener on a journey. Outside of radio I’ve worked in hospitality, DJ’d in nightclubs, and tried to be the best cat dad that I can be.

How did you become involved in the station?

I first heard RTR FM when it was 6UVS back in 1983, and knew I had to be involved. A couple of weeks later I was on the UWA campus and got to have a look around the station and the next day I came in and volunteered.

Since then, I’ve presented many programs, worked on staff, served on the board, and volunteered in many roles with the station. For the past couple of decades I was working in commercial radio, and now I’ve gone back to my roots as an RTR volunteer again! This place will never be rid of me!

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Most memorable gig was probably the first In The Pines back in 1994 – we had no idea what to expect, and despite running out of beer several times, it was an amazing day of local live music that is still going strong!

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

This is a tough one as I love most of the shows on RTR, but standouts for me are Golden Apples of the Sun, Posted and Peer2Peer.

Love music?

Love RTRFM.
