Say hello to

Cee

( She/ Her )

Born into an extremely musical family, so music was an inevitability. A singer, selecta, storyteller, curator, event organiser, radio host, professional opinion haver, R&B and Soul Aficionado and ALWAYS FOR THE CULTURE.

About

Get to know Cee

I came from the days of pressing record and play simultaneously to get music recorded from the radio onto a cassette tape, hoping the radio host didn’t keep talking over the start of the song or too early at the end. From the blog era days when you really ended up 700 clicks deep, not remembering where you started but having your mind blown by the music you discovered from a country thousands of miles away (the internet was fresh). When infecting your computer with the Bill Clinton ‘sexual relations’ speech was worth getting killed by your parents for the new music you would get out of it.

I come from a family of singers, DJs and dancers. It’s always been in my blood and to be able to have an outlet outside of my own voice to be able to share other peoples art and sound through radio is a no brainer. I love giving people a platform to share their story.
Outside of RTR I run events, most notably an Old Skool R&B party called The Funktion with live music and DJs, I host music focused radio nationally, I act as selecta for the odd event and I sing. In my 9-5 I have an Indigenous coffee company and run community programs to teach First Nations students barista skills. I’m a proud Sri-Lankan and Kalkadoon woman and I’m always for the culture. All that aside – I’m not above a Love Island marathon – hit me with the couch rot.

How did you become involved in the station?

A lunch with Aslan, turned into the 6 week RTR presenter course, which then resulted in a degree in broadcasting and digital journalism – shout out Aslan!

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

It’s gotta be Michael Jackson for his 1997 History Tour. I begged my parents to take me and my Mum kept telling me we couldn’t afford it. On the night of the show we went to Burswood for ‘dinner’ (Burswood Dome still existed back then), I watched all the concert goers flocking into the venue and was DEVASTATED.

My dad hid tickets in the bush next to where we were sitting for me to find and little me was none the wiser that I had been set up. Walking in I was so overwhelmed I cried and told my Mum I wanted to go home. After a stern talking to and an admission that the tickets cost them a fortune I was in and 1 song in dancing on my seat. The man brought a full size army tank on stage and appeared from the ground with fire.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?
