Kyle Springer

I’m originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, but now call Perth home. I enjoy exploring the stories behind music and I see music as a way to connect with other people, the past, and different ideas and cultures. I’m a father to two kids who love listening to sea shanties and visiting museums. I SCUBA dive, cook, garden, read books, and travel.

Get to know Kyle

I’ve been listening to RTRFM for at least 10 years after I moved to Perth from Washington, DC. I love presenting and being part of the scene since I think RTRFM is the best independent radio station I’ve come across in my travels. Its sustained existence says a lot about Perth and the WA arts and music community. Being able to support that community as a radio presenter is a tremendous privilege.

How did you become involved in the station?

One year I volunteered during Radiothon, answering phones on a Friday night during the Soulsides and Black & Blue shows. Tim from Drivetime was running the phone room and encouraged me to do the presenter course. At around the same time, a couple others mentioned the presenter course, so I took it as a sign.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Great memories of listeners ringing or messaging into the studio on the early morning shows. There’s some real legends out there between 4-6am!

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

Spoonful of Blues takes the cake but I love Rock Rattle & Roll, Soulsides, Black & Blue, Global Rhythm Pot.
