Hi! I love all things music – performing, listening, writing about, talking about, broadcasting (on RTRFM!) music. Currently studying Jazz Piano at WAAPA.

About

Get to know Lachy

My friends tell me I should start a newsletter so they can keep all my music and music related recs in one place – I like to think of my shows on RTR as my newsletter to the community! I love showcasing all the excellent music Australia and WA has to offer because there is some real and true beauty hiding in plain sight over here. Outside of RTR I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Jazz Piano at WAAPA while also playing professionally around Perth in many different configurations (Nuflame, Luci + Lachlan, WAYJO, and more). I first heard RTRFM through Saturday Jazz – one of the presenters hipped me to the program and I was hooked!

How did you become involved in the station?

I got involved with RTRFM after a friend said they were taking the presenter course – I didn’t realise that was something people could do in Perth, so instantly I was in.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

My most memorable gig has to be Sam Anning’s ‘Earthen’ Septet at The Ellington Jazz Club. Sam wrote his ‘Earthen’ album after Archie Roach passed away, with whom Sam toured for many years. The music is not Archie’s material and it wasn’t trying to imitate it, but Sam wrote his experiences and emotion into the music so deeply that by the end of the second set, the whole room was in tears. He also brought back from Melbourne with him some Perth jazz legends who were a delight to experience in their hometown (as well as Andrea Keller – being a pianist she is one of my favourite musicians ever!).

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

I love Global Rhythm Pot!
