Say hello to

Mittens

( She/ Her )

I’ve always loved digging for music of all genres, but grew up on 90’s grunge, and punk. I’m a big fan of breaks, house, garage, and disco but love anything with weird sounds, and funky percussion to get you moving (the more cowbell the better!)

About

Get to know Mittens

A mate convinced me in 2012 to get some decks, and after playing a bunch of house parties and pub gigs, I got the offered a guest set on Trainwreck. This opened up heaps of amazing opportunities, from playing clubs and festivals around boorloo, to becoming resident at Ambar, and now co-presenting Full Frequency!

Presenting on RTR is such an amazing experience. I love the sense of community at the station, from the volunteers to the staff and most importantly the listeners & supporters. It often just feels like I’m sharing music with friends, which is an awesome thing to look forward to each week!

Outside of music, I work in Science Communication – doing science shows and getting kids excited about STEM. In my spare time, I’m usually hanging out with my cat, drinking tea, building bizarre robots, and trying to find my car keys. Have you seen them?

How did you become involved in the station?

I started as a guest DJ on Trainwreck, and the crew asked me to join the collective. A few years later Micah asked me to join him on Full Frequency which pretty much made my day/week/year!

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Attending: That Big Day Out when Peaches walked onto the crowd wearing a giant costume made of hair. Playing: Probably the wild campout on the beach stage, it was so fun & high energy I needed a nap after.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

There are so many, I love Soulsides, and Drive with Vishnu.

Love music?

Love RTRFM.
