Get to know RJ

Outside of music and presenting, I’m senior economics teacher and hockey coach. I am also an experienced Rites of Passage Facilitator and trained in Youth Mental Health and First Aid. Everything I do is grounded in a passion for young people 🙂

I’ve always been extremely interested in music, however I have been heavily committed to sport for most of my teenage and early 20’s years. Only been in more recent years that I have allowed myself to explore my relationship with music properly DJing and presenting community radio.

How did you become involved in the station?

I came in with my mate Dan Rechichi for global rhythm pot and I was hooked. Connection and community through music are important to me and I was instantly taken by the relationship between presenter and audience, as well as the relationships between RTR members.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Asha Puthli at Mojo’s was one of the most intimate shows I’ve seen. Her iconic voice and story sharing at one of our most special venues in Perth was unforgettable.

Danilo Plessow (MCDE) at Port Beach. Flawless mixing on vinyl, excellent selections throughout and shared with many of my best friends.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?

Global Rhythm Pot, The Rounds, Black and Blue.
