Sweet James

( He/ Him )

A cornucopia of music history, film appreciation, terrible jokes and board game enthusiasm.

About

Get to know Sweet

RTR was a big influence on my burgeoning love of music during my university years. I had done a few years of community radio elsewhere and discovered a lot of great artists that way, but it only scratched the surface. RTR always offered more music than I ever thought possible. I wanted to join the team back in ye old days, but I was worried I’d be too biased towards my friend’s bands! Now I’m much older and I don’t know anyone! I am bias free and can still declare that WA makes and RTR plays some of the best music on the planet. It’s a privilege to be able to present on RTRFM and hopefully inspire the next wave of music aficionados.

How did you become involved in the station?

I finally bit the bullet and signed up for the Presenters course.

Tell us about your most memorable gig, either attending or playing at?

Prince, 2007, the o2 Arena London. I was gig-hopping through the UK when some Irish girls in my hostel suggested I accompany them to the Prince concert they flew into London for. I was convinced to pay the exorbitant ticket price by the promise of a post-show appearance by the Great One.

Every concert in his month-long London stay was followed by a supplementary concert in another smaller venue within the o2. It was usually played by Prince’s backing band, but Prince himself had joined the post-show for half of the nights of his tour thus far. On this night, we were one of the lucky ones. Prince rocked the main show for over 3 hours then did ANOTHER 2 hours in the post-show. You ask me “which songs did he play?”. My answer is simply “Yes”. Simply the greatest performer I ever witnessed live.

What is your favourite show (other than your own) on RTRFM?
