Arts Impact WA Awards Night 2024
Established in 2021, Arts Impact WA is a collective giving community formed to build a more resilient and exciting WA through the arts.
On May 23rd, six shortlisted ambitious, unique artistic applicants will pitch their projects to donors, who will vote to decide which two projects will receive principal grants of $100,000 at a gala event at the Rechabite Hall.
One of six applicants is JC, whose practice embraces sculpture, installation, performance and new media works.
Their entry for Arts Impact WA, Queer Monuments “will explore the (in)visibility of queer history, using augmented reality (AR) technologies. JC will work from the Gay and Lesbian Archive of WA and the oral histories of elders and peers, employing drawing and sculpting practices alongside AR to imagine queer memorials. These will be translated into virtual sculptures which will be placed in locations around Perth and monuments that can be taken to queer communities, organisations, and festivals around the world.”
Finalist for the Arts Impact WA grant, JC joins Bec Bowman on Artbeat to talk more about Queer Monuments and Arts Impact WA.
