AUKUS Trilateral Security Agreement A Continuation Of Australia’s Traditional Alliances With Added Nuclear Dimension

The new security pact AUKUS that was formed in secret between Australia, the US and the UK has left us with a lot to unpack, from the fallout of the French submarine contract, to the exclusion of New Zealand in this new trilateral agreement.

American political expert and RMIT research fellow, Dr. Emma Shortis spoke to Jesse on On the Record to help sift through the fallout of what this new pact means.

She disputes the simplistic explanation that it is solely about Chinese aggression, explains how it is a continuation of both Australia’s traditional alliances, and US influence in our region, and discusses the implications for Euro-Australian relations resulting from the secret deal.
