Between Breaths with Perun Bonser and Sukhjit Kaur Khsala
Perun Bonser is a Ngarlama writer/director based in Boorloo. Bonser has written and directed several short films including The Shore (ABC), Blight (ABC), Shadow of Displacement (ABC), Fighter (NITV), Invisible Light (ABC) & Unspoken (ABC) which have been screened at Sydney Film Festival, ImagineNATIVE, Hot Docs, St Tropez International Film Festival to name a few.
Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa is a spoken word artist and film maker based in Boorloo. Her passion for storytelling and authentic representation has led her to compete in the Australian Poetry Slam Competition (2014) as a finalist, perform on Australia’s Got Talent (2016) as a semi-finalist and speak at TedxUWA (2017) as well as TedxNewtown (2019).
Between Breaths is a new collaboration from Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa and Perun Bonser that explores country and kinship through the lens of Indigenous and Sikh Australians. This series of experimental films uses movement dialogue and multilingual spoken word poetry to take the audience on a journey of shared history, unearthed sacred sites to contemporary issues, all from the lived experiences of the artists.
